Environment, Health and Safety Management System
The Iluka environment, health and safety management system is managed by Iluka’s Sustainability group who oversee the business-wide implementation of the company’s environment, health and safety policy, standards and group procedures. Site-based personnel are directly accountable for the development of site-specific procedures and risk assessments that comply with the standards of the management system.
The Iluka environment, health and safety management system comprises of the following key areas:
- Environment – developing effective plans for the cessation of operations and rehabilitation of disturbed areas, and using resources efficiently, in particular energy, water and land.
- Health – identifying, assessing and monitoring health hazards.
- Safety – managing personal and process safety risks associated with operations.
- Community – engaging communities and ensuring their views are part of Iluka’s decision-making process.
The system guides the company towards attaining leading practice in the areas of environment, health, safety and community throughout the lifecycle of activities from exploration, planning, research and project development, through to operation, closure and rehabilitation.
Environment, health and safety management system audits are conducted to measure the company’s compliance and effectiveness in managing sustainability performance, and to drive continual improvement in this area. All group standards and group procedures are measurable and auditable.
