Iluka has several internal mineral sands projects which are at various stages of evaluation. The deposits provide the potential for a combination of replacement production as existing operations cease or mature and, in some cases, growth in production.
Iluka's approach is to determine the phasing of projects based on market demand and, in some cases, securing appropriate commercial arrangements to underpin all or part of the revenue stream, as well as the completion of appropriate technical and commercial evaluation.
Projects being evaluated or implemented are reported upon in Iluka's Quarterly Production Report.
The links below provide information on each project.
Balranald, Murray Basin
A major rutile, zircon and ilmenite deposit at detailed feasibility stage in the Murray Basin, New South Wales.
Cataby, Perth Basin
A chloride ilmenite deposit, with associated zircon and rutile. The ilmenite is a suitable feed for synthetic rutile production. A detailed feasibility study has been completed.
Eucla Basin Satellite Deposits, South Australia
Three satellite deposits close to the Jacinth-Ambrosia operation, and a potential source of ilmenite and associated zircon production. The pre-feasibility study for the Sonoran deposit has been completed and further work suspended.
Puttalam, Sri Lanka
A large sulphate ilmenite deposit, Puttalam district, Sri Lanka. A scoping study has been completed, with the intention to progress to pre-feasibility study stage.
